Where do we
recycle?
We recycle in all
Office Areas and Office Suites in Academic buildings, that
have requested the service. A
few Academic Buildings are running a pilot program that has
collection bins in the common areas of those buildings.
How does the
recycling program work?
We recycle Office
Paper, Computer Paper, Aluminum Cans and Newspaper (in
select areas), that request this service. Office paper
recycling starts at the desk of participating  Faculty
and Staff members. We provide desk boxes for all that request
them. This box provides a location for participants to conveniently
store their recyclables until it is full. The participant
will then empty recyclables into a blue office paper recycling
container centrally located in the area. That blue container
is then emptied by the custodial staff and taken to a central
location for our recycling specialist to retrieve.
Aluminum recycling
works about the same, the blue recycling container in that
area is to contain all of the Aluminum material.
Old
Newspaper is recycled in areas that generate large
quantities of this recyclable. Examples of these areas are
libraries that receive large quantities of daily newspapers.
Old newspaper is the lowest grade of recyclable paper and
we have to spend the majority of our resources on the higher
grades of recyclables. The city of Tuscaloosa has collection
bins for newspaper (and other recyclables) at many area firestations.
